Me in Five Words
Strategic
When I lead projects, I first consider how the client, and others, will use the research. Everything else follows from that information.
For example, when I took over the Leaders We Need Now communications, I structured the third brief so that readers could easily pull a single theme from it and have an attractive one-page document to share with policymakers.
Creative
By always considering different perspectives and connecting ideas from different fields, I develop engaging approaches to data and tasks.
“Tara had the idea to include a student dictionary in the final deliverable, sharing some of the unique student definitions that came through the interviews. Our feedback from the client has been so positive! I was on a call with a different team from Teach For America where I presented the results and four different members mentioned how insightful the student dictionary was and how it allowed them to understand how students were interpreting the survey items.” – Cassandra Meyer, Senior Technical Assistance Consultant
Resourceful
I approach challenges with two questions in mind: what do I need to accomplish, and what do I have to help me do so? Then, I fully explore the capabilities of the latter to achieve the former.
For example, one tool that is always readily available is spreadsheet software. I have used spreadsheets to develop interactive models of teacher stipends in Indiana, complex workbooks comparing data against multi-level criteria and combining those results into a single rating, and an intense readiness assessment tool to guide school leadership teams.
Resilient
When faced with challenges and setbacks, I take time to understand the situation and then chart the path through.
“Tara was supportive and encouraging throughout the entire process. We experienced many set backs resulting in a number of delays with getting the deliverables ready for the client. She organically slid into a leadership role within the micro-credential task taking lead on scheduling meetings, communicating with the client and our internal team, and keeping the project moving forward. Additionally, she kept the feedback process moving through countless rounds of review, revisions, and changes in requests. Tara delivered a unique product for student micro-credentials in the SEL space, pioneering the work. I learned from Tara by watching her gracefully navigate the project with persistence and pride ultimately resulting in delivering a high quality product to the client.” – Madeline Denjongpa Ed.D., Researcher at AIR
Adaptable
Change is invigorating. I thrive on new challenges, knowledge, and experiences.
In March 2025, due to circumstances with federal funding, I was let go from my senior researcher position at AIR. Within a day, I started building this website. I am excited to explore new opportunities.
In more than five words…
I have a Masters in Education Policy from the University of Pennsylvania and 14 years of experience. I am seeking to work in Chicago, IL or remotely. I am willing to relocate for the right offer.
My strengths include rapidly synthesizing ideas, easily visualizing project roadmaps, quickly understanding and becoming conversant on new ideas, creating useful analogies, and finding unexpected connections between different fields of knowledge.
